I’m Nyree, an Art Therapist registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC), and British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT). My practice is rooted in feminist therapy, which means acknowledging systemic oppression (sexism, racism, ableism, classism, hetrosexism etc) and the impacts of this on people’s mental health.
Art Therapy sessions combine creative activities such as drawing, painting, collage (you don’t need any previous art making experience), with psychodynamic and person-centred approaches. This involves exploring past experiences and unconscious patterns which may support understanding of current emotions and behaviour.
I have worked alongside people navigating complex trauma, mental health issues, additional support needs and recovery from domestic abuse and honour-based abuse. Through third sector and statutory work, I have provided one-to-one support, along with groupwork and outreach work, giving me extensive experience in trauma informed care, with a focus on supporting women and people from marginalized communities.
Working holistically and collaboratively, art therapy is tailored to each individual. For some this may look like short term directive support, for others it may be longer term and non-directive. Art Therapy can support and promote emotional and mental health, sense of agency, self-expression and self-compassion.
If you would like to connect, please email me or contact me through the Edinburgh Therapy Centre and we can arrange a free 20-minute introduction call.
